10 Moore Street

The house at 10 Moore Street was originally a single story timber and iron structure the width of a single room built in Federation Bungalow architectural style. Renovations have added another floor. It is unclear when this house was constructed, but it appears to be around 1910.

Moore Street used to be called Norwood Road. The area was subdivided around 1897 by Edwin Thomas as the Norwood Park Estate. The street was then renamed to Moore Street after the Moore family, including Sir Newton Moore, premier of Western Australia 1906-1910.

From 1921 for at least a decade the house was owned and occupied by a lumper named Luke Smith. He likely worked at the Bunbury Jetty. Luke was a member of the Bunbury Lumpers’ Union (reference). In 1931, the residential street address was 9 Moore Street.

Thomas McLenron was the owner and occupier of this house from the mid 1940s until at least the early 1950s.
