2 Jarrah Street

The house at 2 Jarrah Street was named Lyndhurst. It is a single-storey timber and iron house constructed in the Federation Queen Anne style of Architecture. It is unclear when the house was built, but it was likely around 1905. The property was once part of the Stirling Estate subdivided by William Bedford Mitchell in 1896.

In 1917 a London nurse who claimed to have cured infantile paralysis was advertising accommodation from her property, Lyndhurst, in Bunbury (reference). It is likely that this is the same house.

In 1921, 2 Jarrah Street was owned by Mr Goldsmith.

In 1921 it was purchased by Charles Henry Tomkinson, a butcher. His life story is in our biography section and can be read here.
