Aboriginal Fishing Practice

The Bus Depot in Bunbury, also known as the old train station, was once a body of water running off the estuary (reference). The pond was connected by a narrow neck, making it ideal for trapping fish (reference). According to a Blackwood Times article, the Aboriginal people of Bunbury used to block the neck of the pond with branches and stand in a line across the pond, facing towards the shore and beat the water with branches (reference). The beating of the water drove the fish into the shallow, ready for the people standing on the edge to grab the fish and throw them onto the shore (reference).
