RAMSAY, William Cunningham (1820-15/05/1862)

William was a prosperous farmer with son James at "Minninup", which he bought in 1856 from J.K. Child. He also owned Bunbury town lots, and some farms in Wellington district, bought in the 1850-1860s. William traded in supplies with American whalers. His widow carried on at "Minninup" as stock owner, and employed 8 ticket of leave men on occasions from (1863-1873).

On 21/06/1662, he married Anne Roberts (27/12/1840-07/02/1900). Anne died in Bunbury by drowning. Her parents were William Jenkin Roberts and Isabella. She arrived on 10/04/1842 on the Diadem. James and Anne's children were John (1864-), William Cunningham (-1944) and Eva. In Bunbury from 1867, James was a landowner and stockbreeder. He also was a member of the Road Board and Bunbury Volunteer Force. He owned two shops, a butcher and a grocery. He employed 7 ticket of leave men on occasions from (1862-1870) including a sawyer and a cabinet maker.

William was born in New South Wales and died in Gaza in WWI. His father was William Allwood, who arrived in the late 1890s. In December 1903, William John was married in Bunbury to Norah Mitchell (03/11/1880-05/03/1974). Norah's parents were William Bedford and Caroline. William John and Norah's children were William Gordon (1904-), Mary (1906-1906) died in Albany, Margaret (1909-1912) died in Bunbury, Kenneth Prinsep (1910-1934), Elizabeth Alison (1913-) and Janet Ainslie (1915-). William John was a surveyor who worked in Geraldton district and later was appointed District Surveyor at Albany. His widow was a hostess at the Government House from 1949-1951 when her brother's wife died. Sir James Mitchell was lieutenant governor of Western Australia for many years.

James was an ex-convict who died in Bunbury. His parents were William and Ann, who were from England. James arrived on 07/08/1854 on the Ramillies. James was married on 16/07/1861 in York at the Roman Catholic Church to Ann Ryan. Ann’s parents were John and Elizabeth. She arrived on 26/12/1860 on the Escort or 06/04/1859 on the Hamilla Mitchell. James and Ann’s children were Elizabeth (1862-), Charles (1863-), born in York, and Esther Mary (1866-). James lived in York and Perth and was a carter and boat owner in the 1870s. He sold the cutter, Eliza Jane, in 1874 to George Simpson of the Western Australia Timber Co., Lockeville. James employed thirteen ticket of leave men on occasions from 1863-1874, including boatmen, woodcutters, sawyers and a cooper.

Arrived on the Triumph from New Zealand to Derby via Sydney and Darwin to the Kimberley gold rush in 1886. He signed a petition protesting against the quarantine of ships in Derby for the case of scarlatina.

He arrived 14/01/1880 on the Daylight from London with Annie. Anglican chaplain in Bunbury from 1880 to 1889, serving at Bridgetown, Busselton, Brunswick and Harvey. He returned to England 1889 to become a diocesan missionary at Gloucester. Degree at Oxford University.

He was born in England. Wallace was the son of Thomas and Marianne. He arrived on the 14/10/1854 on the Esmeralda. Married Isabella Marion Scott (11/05/1858-04/03/1948) around 1879 in Bunbury. Daughter of John and Catherine of Bunbury. Children were Ethel (1879), Edith (1881), Katherine (1883), Marion (1885), Emily Georgina (1887), Alexander (1891), Elsie (1893), Agnes, Minna (1897), Sylvia (1895), Rita (1899), Phyllis (1902). Wallace was a bootmaker in Kojonup in 1876 and Bunbury from 1879 to 1889. Northampton and York Tanner. Assisted in the capture of Bobbinet, the Aboriginal who killed William Archibald Armstrong in 1875.

Children were Ellen (1852), Wallace (1853-1922) born in England, Jessie, William died 1863, Henry, Anne, Thomas (1863-1946), Benjamin (1867-1905) born in Albany, Robert (1869-1939), Alfred (1872). Thomas was a plasterer by trade, later worked as a shoemaker in Albany. In 1868 bought a town lot and employed four ticket of leave men from 1866 to 1872. He went to Kojonup and Bunbury.

He was the son of Thomas and Marianne. He married Amelia Gibson born around 1874 on 01/02/1892, daughter of William and Amelia. Children Maria Amelia baptised in 1893, William Thomas (1894), Robert Henry (1896), Reginald WaIter (1897), Ernest, Annie Laura (1900). George Frederick (1903), WaIter, Matthew. Hazel Elizabeth (1909-1910), Myrtle. Robert worked in his father's factory, later became a labourer and tanner. He lived in Fielder St, South Bunbury.

He was the son of Thomas and Marianne, married Rosina North (1862-1938) in 1881. Daughter of Daniel and Eliza. Children were Herbert baptised in 1884, Frederick Charles baptised in 1885, Theodore baptised in 1887, Thomas Daniel baptised in 1890, Geoffrey baptised in 1892, Ethel May (1895), Cecil Henry baptised in 1897, Leslie Roy (1901). Henry was a bootmaker in Bunbury, in partnership with brother WaIter established a tannery and later opened General Stores, managed by son Charles.

He was born in Albany and died in Bunbury. He was the son of Thomas and Marianne. In 1885 married Selina Scott, born in Bunbury (21/07/1869-30/06/1969). Daughter of John and Catherine. Children were Ellen (1886- 1969) died in Northam, Muriel (1889-1911) died in Bunbury, Daisy (1892-1950). Benjamin worked in a flour mill in Bunbury. His religion was Methodist. He was a member of The Church of England.

He was born in Capel and died in Maylands. William was the son of Charles Daniel and Margaret. First marriage Ellen Woodrow (28/10/1868-07/08/1909), born in Bunbury, died in Coolgardie, in Karridale on 28/04/1890. Daughter of Josiah and Mary Ann. Second marriage Clare Morris died 19/01/1959 in Perth, married in Melbourne on the 04/09/1918. Children to first marriage were William George baptised in 1890, Wesley Charles (1891-1895), Edward Jonah baptised in 1893, Alice Gladys baptised in 1895, Lily (1898), Clarence (1904). Children to second marriage were Edmund, Francis, Kever died in World war I. William commenced work in timber mills in the South West for thirteen years. He was appointed Technical Officer of Saw Hill, Pemberton. In 1924 launched his Australian Lumber Co. in Perth, sold in 1926 (later registered as Alco). In 1935 had half share in Haylands Hotel. Education at Capel. He was a member of The Church of England.

Daughter of John Scott and Catherine. Children were Allen Edward, Wesley (1891), Sylvia Zoe, Gladys Amelia, Arthur Claude. Lincoln Scott, Redvers Roberts. Rebecca Edna, Doris Enid, Dulcie Minna (1906-1945), Phyllis Ina, Verna Lily. Worked at Robert Forrest'sForrest's Koombana Flour Mill for around 50 years, first as a mechanic, then as a foreman. Held No. 13 Engine Driver'sDriver's Ticket 11/07/1905. Owned 10 acres part of Wellington Loc 41 and Lot 11. House and land In Stirling St, Bunbury. Educated at Capel. He was a member of the Church of England.
