Chocolate Fruit Loaf

Ingredients

¾ lb. flour

½ lb. butter

9 oz. sugar

3 oz. cocoa

¼ lb. currants

¼ lb. sultanas

2 teaspoons baking powder

2 or 3 eggs

milk

vanilla flavoring

1 oz. glazed cherries

Instructions

Mix together the flour, cocoa and baking powder. Beat the sugar and butter to a cream, then add the eggs one at a time and beat well. Prepare the fruit, chopping the cherries up small. Mix all well together with a few drops of vanilla flavoring and add milk as required. Put the mixture into a greased paper-lined tin and bake for 1 hour.

Mrs Owen Gibbs was Miss Emily Campbell who was born in Bungaree, Victoria in 1873 . She married John Owen Gibb in 1902 and had three children: Linda, Iris and John. (reference). This may be the same Emily Campbell who was appointed head teacher at Wedgecarrup school in 1900 (reference).
