Klompen, the Dutch word for wooden clogs, was ‘Bunbury’s newest sound’ in 1964 when twelve settlers from the Netherlands formed a folk dancing group (reference). Bunbury first witnessed this dance at a wedding reception, organised by Charles Kelderman (reference).

After the successful dance of Charles’ friends and family at the wedding, the group began to practice regularly to accordion music (reference).

According to the Good Neighbour newspaper, the group was booked to perform at the 1964 Bunbury Carousel, an event that attracted many visitors from all over Western Australia (reference).
