Old Portuguese Map of Australia, with Modern Map Outline

This map shows '“that under the first partition of the Spanish and Portuguese spheres, Western Australia would have fallen to the latter, and the rest of the Commonwealth to Spain. The continuation of the coast far to the south is supposed to have been intended to mislead the Spaniards and others and prevent them attempting to reach the Pacific to the south of Australia” - The Western Mail Christmas Number 1907
