Sago Plum Pudding

Ingredients

1 cup of breadcrumbs

1 cup of milk

1 cup of raisins

1 cup of sugar

4 tablespoonfuls of sago (soaked for some hours in the milk)

½ a spoonful of soda

1 ½ teaspoonfuls of butter

Essence of lemon

Pinch of salt. 

Instructions

Soften the butter, and mix with sugar, add other ingredients, and steam in a buttered basin for two and a half hours. Serve with sauce.

This recipe was submitted by Miss Daisy Edwards. She lived with her parents in The Strand at the time. She was engaged to Ralph Norman in 1913 (reference). She was married when she died in 1920 aged 29 at her mother’s house. Her husband Ralph Norman, fought overseas in WW1 with the 51st battalion and returned and lived in Bunbury (reference).
